Obituary of Grace Marie Mellikow
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Grace Marie Mellikow (Potter) at the age of 78 on Friday, December 1st, 2023.
Grace grew up in Thompson Hill, just outside of Renfrew, Ontario. She loved music and often had her friends over to listen to records and dance in the front room of her parent’s home. As an adult she loved to entertain and was known for her fabulous cooking.
Grace attended Lorrain School of Nursing in Pembroke. A natural caretaker, she moved to St. Catharines and worked as a nurse for Hotel Dieu Hospital on the surgical floor and later in the ICU. She ended her career as the school nurse for Robert Land Academy.
It was in St. Catharines where she met her husband, Raimond Mellikow (predeceased 2011). The two settled down in Beamsville, where she became the devoted mother of three children, Raimond (predeceased 1986), Mark and Kim, who will miss her dearly. Grace leaves behind many friends and family. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Kit (Art), sister-in-law Maimu, brother-in-law Kliff (Debbie), and sister-in-law Lis (John). She was an aunt to cherished nieces Kathryn, Karynne, Natalie (her children Owen and Rhys), Natasha (Ian and their children Logan and Ryanne) and Kendra.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, therapists and volunteers at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby. Special thanks to the ICU nurses who always found a vein.
Cremation has taken place. The celebration of life will be held on April 6th from 2:00-4:30pm at Grand Oaks Culinary Market, 4600 Victoria Avenue, Vineland, ON. Beverages and sweet and savoy bites will be provided. Please join us as we raise a glass to our dear mother, sister, aunt and friend.
If desired, donations can be made to the Walker Family Cancer Center, West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
The holidays were Grace’s favourite time of year. In her memory, continue with your holiday traditions. Eat, drink and be merry!
