Caroline Deering (nee Regier)

Obituary of Caroline Audrey Deering (nee Regier)

Carol was born to Al and Helen Regier in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on July 17, 1939. Together with her sister Rita and brother James, the family lived in various locations throughout western Canada during her formative years. Carol met Lloyd at church in Saskatoon and later moved to Calgary to work for The British American Oil Company. In 1957, they were married in Calgary, where their three oldest children (Nola, Lowell and Dale) were born. Due to Lloyd’s work, the family moved through a series of global locations including Houston, Atlanta (where their youngest child Wayne was born) and Toronto. Carol’s primary focus was looking after her family. She arranged the children’s music lessons, sporting events, church youth programs and other activities. At the same time, she was always active in the church. This included work with girls’ clubs, women’s ministries, missions, and Bible studies. Carol’s creativity extended to stained glass, sewing, baking and occasionally playing the violin. Her greatest joy was to have the entire family and friends in for a meal which she loved to prepare. Upon retirement, Lloyd & Carol moved to Vineland where she was involved in their church and enjoyed many visits from her grandchildren. Carol loved to plan trips and cruises which they enjoyed. People often spoke of Carol as a genuine, gracious, authentic and classy lady. But those who knew her well knew that her love of Jesus Christ overflowed into all her relationships. No matter where home was, Carol demonstrated her love by providing a stable, positive environment where people wanted to be. She took delight in passing on her love of music to her children, encouraging their faith and listening when they needed to talk. When her children married, she welcomed their spouses with open heart and arms. In later years, she took delight in creating one-on-one times with each of her grandchildren, and praying for them between visits. Carol’s love for Christ always kept her active in the church and serving others. One of her greatest joys was offering hospitality for old friends and new acquaintances. Carol considered it a privilege to be “chosen” by her Lord to work, serve others, and live life to the fullest no matter the location or the circumstances. She never thought of herself as special, but those who knew her knew she was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Visitation will take place on Thursday March 9, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at First Alliance Church (3250 Finch Ave E, Toronto), followed by a funeral service at 12 PM. A private family interment will take place at the Vineland cemetery. Donations in Carol’s memory can be made to Camp Mini-Yo-We or Camp Crossroads.
