Dear Maisie and family
I always loved and admired Derek and Maisie, their compassion, their love and their joy of life. Derek was a wondeful man. I enjoyed on occassion a meal with them when they were out. It was just heartfilling to see them walk into a restaurant and just enjoy their love. Derek meant alot to me and my 2 sons. May he be filling the heavens with jokes and laughter. RIP

Dear all
We are so sad to hear of the passing of Derek a truly one off gentleman that as a family we have very fond memories of our visits to Canada over the last few years.
We will always treasure the memories of the time we spent in Dereks company at our wedding in Jamaica and the time spent rattling around the gardens in Vineland that was truly his pride and joy.
We are so sorry we can't be there in person Monday to pay our respects and remember with you all a unique gentleman. but rest assured he and you all will be in our thoughts

I have wonderful memories of Dr. Askey and visiting his office with my parents and our various pets! He brought me into his private office once and opened his desk drawer to show me a bunch of kittens he had in there. I have never forgotten it! He was so friendly, kind and we knew our pets were getting the best care. My heartfelt condolences to Dr. Askey's family.

My deepest sympathies to the family on Derek's passing.
Our family knew him as Dr. Askey, who was a wonderful veterinarian. He had such a gentle, non-anxious manner with all animals. He looked after our cat, Tri-co, who was a bush cat from Northern Ontario before she was domesticated and became our family pet. She wasn't impressed with going to the vet, of course, but he was so calm when he examined her, calling her "Doll" which always made us laugh and reassured the patient and her owners. His legacy Askey Animal Hospital lived on far after his retirement. Rest in peace.

Derek was one of the more "mature" members of our veterinary class.
We looked up to him, not only because of his "big brother" image, but because of his other contributions to our class. A fine athlete, Derek was a member of both our basketball team and ourswim team. When Derek and Maisie moved to Vineland, they hosted two memorable class reunions. Their friendship and generosity will not be forgotten.
We will miss a very fine classmate. Dean Percy
