Obituary of Dr. Derek Copeland Askey

Askey , Dr. Derek C. – The sudden death of Dr. Askey at St. Catharines General Hospital on March 13, 2018 was a shock to us all.  Growing up in Winnipeg he was a choir boy soloist in his fathers church.  He was a sergeant in the Canadian Air Force, two years a High School Teacher and graduated with B.A. Honours in University of Manitoba in 1948.  In moving to Burlington he opened a very successful veterinary practice.  Upon retiring he moved to Vineland.

He will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife Maise, his young brother Dr. Alan Askey, sister-in-law Merite, David, Ethan and his wife Elizabeth, and young Clare.  His sons Jason, Anthony and daughter Doria, step-daughter Susan and step-son Paul.  Grandchildren, Derek Jason, Ursula, Isabelle, Brandy and Darcy.  Great grandchildren Axel, Aireanne and Kane.

He is a man to be remembered for his love of a good joke, his many talents and his authoritative voice.  We grieve his departure.

The family will receive friends at the Vineland Chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St, Vineland on Sunday, March 18 from 3 – 5:00 p.m.  A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations to World Vision – Foster Child would be appreciated.
