Born at home August 15, 1931 in Sperling Manitoba to Wilhelm and Maria (Enns) Martens, Peter passed away at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital on Feb 5, 2019. Loving husband to Johanna (Wiebe), and dear father to Ken & Jane (Balint) Martens, Elaine & Ken Hamilton, David & Anita (Kopriva) Martens, Richard & Laura (Lutes) Martens. He was a proud grandfather to Christine & Brad Morgan, Jason & Stephanie Martens, Jeff & Michele Martens, Katie & Zac Beal, Josh Hamilton, Nicole & Morgan Alexander, Tiffany Martens, Jessica & Matt Wright, Robert Martens, Ryan Martens, Jordan Martens. Blessed great-grandfather to Lukas, Sadie, Isla, Jackson, Olivia, Nova and Benson. Predeceased by brothers Leonard, Willy, Ernest, sister Sophie Wiens, and grandchild Brandon.
Peter was a committed believer whose life was characterized by faithful service. He freely gave of his time and energy to serve the local church and those in need. He was often found cleaning up long after the crowds had left, or making coffee and preparations for a banquet. He applied his knowledge and skill for building as he served as a Building Project Manager for several additions at St. Anns Community Church, where he served since its inception in 1967. His strong musical background was appreciated at the church as Choir Director, as well as in the broader community where he performed at countless music events as a bass soloist.
As a businessman, and manager of St. Catharines Building Supplies, he was appreciated as a fair and honest employer, who treated his customers with kindness and respect. His reputation gave him favor in the greater community.
Peter loved people. He was often out for coffee or lunch with friends and family. He will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral service and Visitation will be held at St. Anns Community Church – 5425 Regional Road 69 (Twenty Mile Road). Visitation will be Thursday Feb 7 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm; and Funeral Service Friday Feb 8 at 1pm. Condolences for the family and memorial donations to Square One World Media
