THIESSEN, Harry Peter
Passed away peacefully at Hospice Niagara on February 11, 2019 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband and best friend for 68 years of Pepper (Petkau) Thiessen. Loving father of Karen (Virgil) Reimer, Rick (Kathy) Thiessen, Tom (Lois) Thiessen, Deb (David Dick) Bergen, and Patti Pickles. Will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Julie Corinne (Darren), Beverly (Matt), Jennifer (TJ), Matthew (Carmela), Michael (Maren), Chris, Ryan (Heidi), Della (Brandon), Andrew, Stephen, Jeff (Julia), Greg (Katiana), Kim (Joel), Josh, Jordan, and Calyssa (John), as well as 20 great grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers Eugene (Mathilda) and Henry (Leona). He was predeceased by siblings Jake (Sarah), John (Hilda), Dave (Elsie), Anne (Dave), Sally (Dave), Irene (Jake).
Harry was an electrical contractor, owner of Harry's Electric and Sequence Lighting for forty years. He also made many significant contributions to his community through active involvement with Niagara Construction Association, Niagara Credit Union, Tabor Manor Board of Directors, and many church conference committees and boards. He also volunteered at Christian Benefit Store, always willing to help out others in the community in any way that he could, especially with electrical needs. Music was a big part of his life, and he was involved in many quartets and male choirs over the years. Harry liked to play as hard as he worked. He was an avid golfer and loved to swing a tennis racket any time he could.
His faith in God was extremely important to Harry, and he tried to take advantage of every opportunity to be a witness to others in how he lived life, conducted his business, and encourage others. Beliefs that were most important to Harry were: belief in God, belief in yourself, and belief in others.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15 at Northend Church, 455 Geneva Street, St. Catharines, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.. The funeral service to celebrate Harry's life will take place at Northend Church on Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Hospice Niagara or Radiant Care (Tabor Manor). A very special thanks to the incredible staff at both Hospice Niagara and Tabor Manor. So many unbelievably caring and wonderful people supported us during this difficult time, that we can't begin to list names, but please know that you are all like family to us. Thank you.
