I met Matthew about 9 years ago. We worked together for a few years and I quickly got familiar with someone who was very smart and very witty. He could joke but also engage you in a very good political or economic conversation if you were game. Also he was a huge sports fan and not just 'football'. He would have the inside scoop on any result or trade. But mostly he made you feel like he was just enjoying your company. I know when he retired from his latest work contract he was impatient for the regular meet-up with the lads for wings and an ale or two. And now there's an empty chair around that table. Here's to you, Matthew! I will miss you, Mate.

Your personality and humour touched many and anybody who was lucky enough to enjoy your company would have a "Matt" story or two. I certainly have after you welcomed me into your home for a visit some years back. I loved that time together and often still reflect on our conversations. You were honest, forthright and passionate and always dealt with life as it came. You were cruelly taken too soon after you bravely fought and beat cancer.
Your spirit will always live in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved you. You will be missed but your memory will be cherished, lots of love, Niall, Rachael, Amy and Sophie

Dinie, I am so sad to hear about Matthew.
I knew Matthew in Sydney, yes, he was always great fun and interesting.
I always planned to visit you both, but........!
Was his death a surprise and sudden?
I was amazed at the list of his family.
It is hard to believe.
Thank you for letting me know.
Lots of love,
Robyn. xxx
ps. The one thing that we remembered together was when I hit him over there head with a bunch of flowers!
We laughed and laughed with the memory.

Together with his wonderful wife Dinie, they created so many treasured memories for those who were fortunate enough to know him. I only wish I had connected more recently with him.
