Obituary of Margret Jantz
We, her loving family, are sad to announce the passing of Margret Jantz at the Hotel Dieu-Shaver Hospital in St. Catharines on April 22, 2020.
Margret was born the daughter of Elizabeth and Johann Loewen, in the small Mennonite village of Steinfeld, Ukraine on April 2, 1940. At the age of three Margret’s parents fled the Ukraine, taking her on an epic journey to Poland in 1943, Germany in 1945, Paraguay in 1948 and finally to Canada at the age of 16 in 1956.
She started a second life journey when she met her future husband, Henry Jantz, at a bowling event in 1966. The two quickly fell in love and were married later that year, on Dec 22, 1966. Henry Jantz was a loving and caring husband for Margret. Together, they had two sons Edward and Matthew.
She will be remembered as a loving mother who always enjoyed being with her family. She enjoyed entertaining people with stories from her childhood and her cooking was often remembered by people years after being invited to her house for dinner. She excelled in cooking and baking!
Margret was predeceased by her husband Henry in 2005. She will be mourned by her sons, Edward and Matthew, brother Peter (Betty) Loewen, sister Anne (Funk), several inlaws, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews who remember her for her kindness and compassion.
Throughout her life, her strong faith in God sustained her and her positive cheery disposition were evident, even in the midst of numerous health issues......Proverbs 3:5-6
Due to the current pandemic a private interment will be held by her family on April 28, 2020.
If desired, donations in her memory may be directed to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) for their worldwide charitable poverty relief programs.
