Obituary of Evelyn Stares

Stares, Evelyn Jerusha – It is with profound grief and hope that we announce that the Lord has taken, into His eternal embrace, our lovely Evelyn Jerusha Stares on September 30, 2020. She was born on September 23, 2020 to loving parents Zackary and Stephanie (nee Sommer) Stares. Granddaughter to D. Allan and Sandra Stares and Richard and Laura Sommer; Great-granddaughter to David (predeceased) and Joyce Stares, Claus (predeceased) and Ann DeVries, Richard and Dianne Kamphuis, Marius (predeceased) and Elisabeth (predeceased) Sommer and Bruce and Joanne Verloop; niece to David and Emma Stares, Jonathan Stares, Jonathan and Amber Sommer, Evan and Taylor Sommer, Rebecca Stares, Ulissa Sommer, Sarah-Lynn Sommer, Lydia Stares, Tamara Sommer, Lilly Sommer and Michael Sommer. She is deeply loved and sorely missed. In the short time that she was on this Earth, Evelyn grabbed onto the hands and hearts of anyone and everyone who came within range, with her smiling face and her trickster attitude.

We will always be grateful to the excellent doctors at McMaster Children’s Hospital, who gave us 7 days with our girl, while always keeping her comfort at the forefront of their decision making.

With King David, who had a similar length of time with his son, we are able to say, with utmost surety, “I will go to (her), but (she) will not return to me.” (II Samuel 12:23)

Family will receive friends Friday October 2, 2020 from 5-8pm at Trinity United Reformed Church, 99 Scott St., St. Catharines. A memorial service at the church on Saturday October 3 at 9:30am will be followed by a private family interment.
