I am so sorry to lose such an important volunteer colleague. My condolences to your family. Anya was an amazing advocate, always reminding us about the impact of our actions, and who it matters for. Through her involvement in Palliative Care Matters over the past 6 years, I could always call Anya and receive sound advice for our advocacy work. We heard her voice on the update palliative care health services standards by Accreditation Canada. She had a significant influence on how i plan to volunteer and advocate, as i begin my retirement. I was so happy that she and Jim had found each other, two exceptional people that have deeply impacted me, and the work we have done.

Today, something told me that I was long overdue for another lovely chat with Anya. It is with enormous sadness that I learned of her untimely passing.
Before moving to Vancouver Island, I was blessed to have Anya’s unwavering encouragement and support for many years. It felt like her lovely smile, quiet laughter, and sparkling eyes were a mere reflection of her soul's golden light. Over those years, she often spoke lovingly of Fred and their children. The last time we spoke, she shared the story of her ongoing fight for home palliative care so no other family would endure similar emotional suffering.
During that phone call, I mentioned that I still had a special book she had loaned me. It is a treasured little book that Mia gave her about how sea shells represent different life stages. Always generous and gracious, Anya said it would mean a lot to her if I kept it to read again whenever I felt the need. Today, I felt that need.
It warms my heart to read that Anya found love again with Jim; albeit for far too short of a time. My heartfelt condolences to her beloved children, Jim, their families and friends. I am so very sorry for your loss.

It has taken me awhile to post something !!! Partly the disbelief my friend is gone and the words are just not enough to express my sorrow!!! Claire, Bevan, Gideon, Liza and Jim, I hold you close to my heart as you all travel through this journey of grief!!
I will miss Anya and our mthly breakfast get togethers which we’ve been doing for a long time!!! Finding time to meet to catch up and share our sorrows, joy, and deep discussions regarding any topic and WOW the topics we came up with !!! She always asked about my kids and proudly shared about her kids in return. Mostly I will miss her smile and hugs that assured you she heard and loved you. She was one of a kind and lived true to herself!! I will miss her!!!!

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Anya. She was my psychotherapist many years ago and changed my life. I would not be the person I am today if it wasn't for her. Her compassion and integrity in her work was profound.

We only met in her last years through a common interest in promoting excellent and accessible palliative care. She was a warm, beautiful, generous, caring woman, whose passing touched me beyond what I would have imagined for someone I knew so briefly. She is a model for how to live after personal tragedy.

We are deeply saddened with the sudden passing of lovely Anya. We came to know Anya over the past few years as she became part of the "Mulcahy " clan here in Nova Scotia... Jim's home province. We saw in Anya a beautiful spirit rich with kindness, intelligence, passion and compassion but most of all a deep love for our brother Jim. We all have been so happy for both of them ... intertwined in their deep love for each other and their total devotion to their families and what the future may hold in store.
To hear of Anya's sudden illness broke all of our hearts for what would have been a future united by the happiness they brought each other. And now....she is gone...gone too soon.
Jim was indeed blessed to be with Anya throughout this sudden illness. He always said "I will not leave her alone" and nor did he. He retells of tender moments as he and Gideon sang one of her special songs "Falling Slowly" together and she mouthed the words along with them as she entered into the last few days of her life.
To Gideon and Claire we offer our deepest sympathies and know that the days ahead will be difficult times for you both. her strength will prevail in you both. To her valued friends, we know how unique a place she will always find in your hearts. To our brother Jim and his family, we offer our deepest love and support in the absence of beautiful, sweet Anya. Anya will always be remembered and treasured in all of our lives ..a gentle woman who we have come to know.

Anya was a pillar in our community.
I have many fond memories of Campden firefighter events and community events where I had enjoyed spending time with Anya.
She so willingly opened her home to so many at Christmas for an openhouse. She will be missed in Campden!
Sincere condolences to Claire, Gideon and their family.

Although Anya was grieving her son Ted she was a most gracious hostess when the Lamplighter Tour visited Campden. We shared memories of our mutual time as Maple Grove parents over more than one cup of tea. Whenever I met her she was always genuinely happy to see me and to get caught up on our lives. I will think of her beautiful spirit whenever I pass her home in Campden. Clare and Gideon I am so very sorry for your loss, your mother was an amazing woman who cared very deeply for her family and community.
