I remember being in grade 10 and going down to Grimsby IGA for several weeks in the mid 1980's and asking John Sr for a job. After much persistence he finally hired me as a part time grocery clerk. It was the best job you could ever have as high school kid.
So many fond memories of working there. John taught me the value of hard work and great customer service. He always cared about his customers and his employees. I made several lifelong friends there...Johnny Mcdermid, Paul Szczesniak, Chris Gdanski and Phil Skradski. We are still great friends to this day and we always talk about our memories of the IGA. Christmas Egg nog with a little something extra after work, Yearly Christmas parties and Darrien lake...don't for get the "Flymow"...
Everytime I walk into a grocery store now, I always think of Grimsby IGA, and say to myself "That's not how it was done at IGA".
John Sr played a pivotal role in many young peoples lives and was great example of hard work and dedication. He was truly a great person to work for

Dear Pachereva Family, My heart sank when I read this. I have the fondest of memories working at Grimsby IGA with your entire family. Not only did you make us all feel like we were a part of yours but you also taught us the importance of being a part of a family. John always had a smile on his face no matter what and when asking for time off, if it was hockey related he was happy to grant the time. Sunday mornings were spent on the ice playing hockey and being the only girl on the ice it was tough, but John always made me feel like I belonged.
Thank you for letting me be a part of something truly amazing, John you were the best boss I have ever. May you Rest In Peace.

John hired me to work at Grimsby IGA back in the spring of 1984. I still remember him guiding me through the customer service standards and determining what size brown bags to use when parceling groceries. John set high standards for how employees were to conduct themselves and he was the example that everyone followed. He was very careful in the selection of his team - I was grateful to be chosen! I met some of my best friends at the Grimsby IGA. What set this business apart was his family who all worked at the store - they made you feel that you were part of the Pachereva Family. I have fond memories of the annual Christmas parties, and being convinced that I needed to go over to Betzner's Home Hardware to get a bucket of steam or a shelf stretcher. May you rest in peace and know that you will be remembered fondly.

Theresa and the Pachereva family,
I cannot begin to express what John meant to me.
I was very fortunate to be part of the Grimsby IGA family. Through good times and bad, you were there to support me. One of my fondest memories was when John was part of my wedding party. A special day made even more special.
John was constantly in motion while at work. We all tried to keep up with him. No wonder he needed a 'nap' after lunch.
I will cherish his memory in my heart.

Many years ago, I worked for John at his Fort Erie IGA store. John treated everyone, especially his staff, as family and greeted all with a smile and a unique gentleness. He took my wife under his wing when she went on a bus trip to a Toronto theatre so she wasn't alone on the trip. My wife never forgot his and Teresa's kindness and warm company. A memory she still cherishes to this day. We need more loving and caring people in this world as John and Teresa. May we all meet again some day.

We've lost a Grimsby icon. John became my first official employer at Grimsby IGA in 1989. Working for, and with, John, Theresa, JD, and Bill was always an honour—and a blast! He always set such valuable examples with regard to work ethic, family, and service. I've wondered about him often and will always cherish the IGA days. John helped set many of us up for success by giving us a chance at young ages and expecting excellence; yet never expecting more from us than he, himself, was willing to give. I still credit him for helping me come out of my shell when he called me up to his office and said, "I need you to try speaking with the customers. Give it a try." Sincere condolences to the Pachereva family. KD

I just heard of John’s passing. I sure appreciated reading his accomplishments as I shared in many of these years ago. I worked for him in Beamsville during High School and then had the fortune to work with Oshawa Foods a few years later and was assigned to work with him in Grimsby and Thorald to upgrade the stores. I know though that as his boys always said, I was the “newspaper boy”! I did deliver their newspaper many years ago (60 or so). He was always a gentleman and had a huge smile which was contagious. I remember with with “grandma” Patchereva doing the produce in Grimsby. Very fond memories.
Blessings to all of you as you celebrate a life well lived!
