My condolences to Gabrielle and Henkman family.
I remember meeting Anneke when she delivered lunch to Gabrielle at a pool in Oakville where we worked as Lifeguards one summer. I noticed the Dutch accent and long story short, I soon found out that Anneke had lived in the same neighbourhood, perhaps also having gone to the same school as my father in Aerdenhout, The Netherlands in the late 1940's. My father (Feike Velsen) knew her as Anneke Reinalda then. I connected them again and Anneke did visit my parents in North Oakville to share old memories. Small world. My father passed away August 24, 2021 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at the age of 89 yrs. In sending out cards to family and friends I noticed Anneke's obituary. I know that he would appreciate me leaving this message.
Again, please accept our condolences,
Paulette Velsen-Rende (on behalf of my father Feike Velsen)

Very sad to hear of dear Anneke's passing, what a wonderful lady she was! The classiest Dutch accent this side of Amsterdam, an intelligence that was formidable, and a solid personality that made you feel so good to encounter. I became acquainted with Helmut and Anneke, as they were a faithful participants at my mum and dad's weekly Wainfleet coffee clatch, where locals met every week for gossip and finger foods. As circumstances go, I was helpful to Anneke when Helmut passed, and she in turn became a dear friend I would come to really enjoy visiting. Always full of life, even as she dealt with a pain of loss I could only imagine, Anneke accomplished what she had to conquer, and lived an amazingly bountiful life. My deepest sympathies to the Family, you were all very much a point of pride for Anneke, and perhaps her greatest legacy of all.

In mid June of 1974 while camping on our honeymoon at Wakami Lake Provincial Park, Ontario we met Helmut and Anneke. Helmut was sailing his small sailboat he had crafted himself. With his broad smile and contagious demeanor he gladly assisted two novice sailors struggling with their own sailboat. He invited us back to his campsite where we were greeted by 2 sweet little girls and lovely Anneke. That night we attended the nature program at the camp amphitheater and afterwards we talked more. We were mesmerized by Anneke’s soothing voice and delightful Dutch accent as she shared stories of their lives as “landed immigrants” from Holland. The next morning Helmut suggested we travel together on the logging roads since they were not used that day due to it being a Canadian holiday. We enjoyed more visiting as we laughed at stopping often while one of the girls dealt with her car sickness. We were sad when we had to part ways as our travels took us in separate directions. But we had exchanged addresses and had kept in touch from then on. Through the years we traveled several times to visit Helmut and Anneke in Oakville. On one of the trips we had come to celebrate Gabrielle’s wedding. They insisted we stay with them. Even while performing the duties of parents of the bride, they gracefully hosted American guests! On their trip to Florida one year they stayed with us in our country home in Ohio. They had brought tulip bulbs that Helmut planted in our back garden. Every spring when the red and yellow flowers burst through the ground we smile and think of Helmut and Anneke. The friendship we built through the years with the Henkman family will forever be held in our hearts and memories. As Anneke now joins Helmut forever in heaven we know that they are both smiling down on us all. Rest In Peace dear friends.
