Obituary of Kay Gortson
Catherine Helen (Kay, Granny Kay) Gortson nee Regier, 97, of Vineland, ON passed away on January 26, 2022 at Henley House in St. Catharines.
Kay was born in Edmonton, AB to Abram and Margarethe Regier on June 13, 1924. She raised 10 children and served faithfully in many capacities at St. Anns Community Church in St. Anns, ON. In the latter half of her life she was well-known for crocheting afghans (more than 2000) that she gifted to so many people.
Kay is survived by her children Linda (Peter Wall), Liz (Alf Koop), Bob (Betty), Kathy McKinnon, Fred (Pat), Margie (Jared Vaillancourt) and Jon (Jennie), 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by sisters Anne Bergen, Frieda Friesen and Rita (Henry Koop), brother Henry Regier, and sister-in-law Hilda Regier; brother-in-law Vic Goertzen (Doreen), sisters-in-law Hilda Peters, Lena Goertzen and Nancy Goertzen as well numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ernie Gortson (1982), her children, David (2005), Mary Kendall (2009), Ernie Jr. (1985), her parents, Abram and Margarethe, her brother David and sisters Margaret Becker, Irma Kaethler and Mary Gossen (Peter).
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Pleasant Manor (Arbourview) and Henley House (Lancaster) staff for their compassion and care.
Visitation at the Vineland Chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St., Vineland on Sunday, January 30, 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
