Our deepest condolences to al the Kobe family on the passing of Joe. Our family (Willms) lived across the street from the Kobe family and we had the privilege of getting to know Joe, Frances and all the kids! We couldn’t have asked for better neighbours and friends! Josi and I became best friends and I spent a lot of time at the Kobe’s and what a treat! The food (loved it all), the wine (even at a young age LOL), and the fun - those were the best of times!!
I let my siblings know of Joe’s passing and they shared a few thoughts/memories of Joe:
From Gord
Very sad news.
From George
Many good memories, he had one speed, fast. So many things to say and do and not enough time in the day. Great smile, just a nice soul. Last visit with them was Ev’s 50th birthday. Love those walnuts and the sausage! And the wine! So much fun!
From Rick
So many great memories. He was a busy man.
From Sharon
Sad news about Mr. Kobe. He was one of a kind. I can still see him under my sour cherry tree as I’m on the ladder reaching for cherries and he’s picking up the ones I’m dropping. All the while talking and encouraging me not to drop any. Mrs. Kobe would in the background telling him to leave me alone. LOL….It was quite a different experience working on the Kobe farm.
From Dale
It was always interesting being around Mr. Kobe. He could recite the entire history of Slovenia and loved to joke around.
From me,
Always a smile on his face and as Dale said loved to joke around and be playful. Just such a warm and beautiful person! He will be missed!!
Love from the Willms family

My sincere condolences to Mrs. Kobe, Linda, Maida, Annie, Helen and Josi.
Life on 11th Street suddenly became exciting in the late ’60s when Joe and Frances and their kids moved onto the street. When you were around Joe the air was filled with his voice and he continually demonstrated the first law of physics that a body in motion stays in motion. It’s good that Joe lived in a house with 6 women. The only members of the species who could match his verbiage.
Being around Joe ranged from entertaining to terrifying. Riding in an overloaded truck down the escarpment while Joe is whistling away, riding in a car while Joe had his left foot on the gas pedal so he could face you while talking or starting a brush fire with diesel fuel are a few examples.
I loved being on the Kobe farm and my life is better for having known Joe and Frances and the family.
Love you guys!
Dale

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to mom, Frances, Josi, Helen, Annie, Maida & Linda and family. I have so many memories of the Kobe family since I was 13. Many visits to the farm with Annie & Helen. Always had food to eat and lots of laughter. Joe use to say “I’m Canadian Tired” after long day on the farm. I lost my dad in 1978 and I graduated from grade 12. Annie as well and I think Helen grade 13. So when they received their gifts Mr. & Mrs. Kobe gave me a card with $20 so I didn’t feel left out! I will never forget that. When my husband, Richard and I went to pick grapes to make wine for our wedding at the Kobe farm Mr. Kobe gave us a farm kitten. He said take this one… it’s a good one! Then Joe helped Richard make and bottle the wine for us. I could go on & on . A family of love! God Bless. Xoxo
